-About+the+product+tanker+market%3Cbr%3EUp+until+2021%2C+the+tanker+industry+experienced+the+worst+earnings+for+more+than+30+years.++Markets+were+weak%2C+as+there+were+not+many+new+building+orders%2C+at+the+same+time+as+demand+was+pretty+low+as+a+consequence+of+COVID-19.+%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3EThen%2C+I+think+it%E2%80%99s+fair+to+say+that+when+Russia+invaded+Ukraine%2C+things+changed.+A+lot+of+uncertainty+in+the+energy+markets.+Oil+prices+increased+and+with+people+being+more+hesitant+to+buy+Russian+oil%2C+particularly+in+European+countries%2C+then+trade+distances+became+longer.+%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3EAlso+because+of+the+increased+volatility%2C+the+oil+companies+and+trading+houses+wanted+to+have+certainty+that+they+could+get+access+to+vessels.+So%2C+they+were+not+so+worried+about+what+they+paid%2C+they+were+more+worried+about+gaining+access.+The+owners+also+got+more+confidence.%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3EAll+these+factors+led+to+markets+tightening+%E2%80%93+initially+only+for+product+tankers+because+it+didn%E2%80%99t+lead+to+an+increase+in+demand.+It+just+led+to+changes+in+where+cargoes+were+moving+from.+%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3EWe+expect+that+that+will+continue.+As+long+as+the+war+between+Russia+and+Ukraine+is+not+stopped%2C+we+also+need+to+see+Russia+return+to+normal+from+an+energy+perspective.+Because+as+long+as+Russian+oil+goes+elsewhere%2C+then+distances+get+longer.+And+you+can+see+now+new+sanctions+are+coming+into+force+in+Europe+for+crude+in+December+and+oil+products+in+February.+We+expect+that+it+will+not+make+Russian+oil+products+stop.+It+will+just+make+them+go+somewhere+else.+Maybe+China+or+India.+Then+Europe+will+still+need+the+same+volume.+So+instead+of+importing+from+Russia%2C+they+will+import+from+the+Middle+East.+%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3ESo%2C+we+expect+that+all+other+things+being+equal%2C+demand+will+increase+by+four+percentage+points.+The+fleet+is+growing+somewhat+next+year%2C+but+not+by+4%25+and+new+building+orders+are+quite+low.+It%E2%80%99s+unlikely+in+our+mind+that+people+will+order+new+vessels+because+there%E2%80%99s+uncertainty+about+future+propulsion.+There%E2%80%99s+uncertainty+about+the+long-term+demand+for+oil+because+the+Paris+Agreement+is+pushing+for+a+reduction.+On+top+of+that%2C+shipbuilding+prices+are+very+expensive%2C+and+delivery+is+now+maybe+2026%2C+a+very+long+time+from+now.+%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3ESo%2C+I+think+the+outlook+looks+strong.+It%E2%80%99s+also+with+that+in+mind+that+we+are+encouraging+owners+to+join+the+spot+market+because+the+rate+difference+between+the+time+charter+%28TC%29+and+the+spot+market+is+high.+The+spot+market+is+maybe+more+than+%2440%2C000+a+day+and+the+TC+market+is+maybe+closer+to+25%2C000.+The+rate+difference+is+really+big.+%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3ESo%2C+we+encourage+owners+that+they+should+be+in+the+spot+market+to+take+advantage+of+the+high+rates+but+also+have+access+to+the+vessels+so+that+they+can+get+a+very+attractive+long-term+time+charter%2C+maybe+three+or+five+years%2C+or+if+they+have+an+opportunity+to+sell+the+vessel+at+a+good+price.+Being+in+the+spot+market+will+allow+you+to+do+that.+%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3EIf+you+look+at+it+historically%2C+the+way+to+make+money+in+tankers+is+really+by+having+your+vessel+available+when+you+have+these+extreme+spikes+that+are+very+difficult+to+predict.+We+did+not+predict+the+Russian+war+in+Ukraine.+Just+as+you+can+say+natural+disasters+and+other+things+have+previously+impacted+the+tanker+market.+We+cannot+predict.+So+having+flexibility+available+in+the+market+is+key.%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3E%E2%80%93+About+Maersk+Tankers%E2%80%99+Pool+activity%3Cbr%3EI+think+when+markets+are+low%2C+then+a+pool+is+very+attractive+because+it+improves+cash+flow+and+I+think+that%E2%80%99s+key+in+such+a+time.+A+pool+can+also+reduce+your+risk.+%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3EBecause+if+you+think+about+one+MR+vessel%2C+the+average+duration+of+one+voyage+is+28+days.+So%2C+every+vessel+will+be+fixed+about+12+times+a+year.+But+markets+are+extremely+volatile%2C+it%E2%80%99s+very+difficult+to+get+market+earnings+with+12+fixtures+a+year.+%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3EOn+the+other+hand%2C+our+pool+has+more+than+90+MRs%2C+each+getting+fixed+about+12+times+a+year.+So%2C+we+do+more+than+1000+fixtures+per+year.+And+with+about+250+business+days+per+year%2C+that+means+we+fix+about+4+ships+every+day.+So%2C+we+are+much+more+likely+to+be+able+to+get+steady+cash%2C+strong+market+earnings+and+the+ability+to+optimize+utilization+on+both+good+markets+and+low+markets.%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3EThe+risk+is+much+easier+to+control+by+the+service+we+deliver+to+the+customer.+About+the+flexibility+for+the+ships+to+enter+and+exit%2C+you+can+leave+our+pool+with+45+days%E2%80%99+notice.+It%E2%80%99s+really+easy+and+the+strategic+commitment+is+rather+limited.%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3E-About+ship+owning%3Cbr%3EMaersk+Tankers+owns+no+ships.+We+have+a+sister+company+called+Maersk+Product+Tankers+owned+together+with+Mitsui+and+that+company+owns+52+ships.%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3EAlso%2C+Maersk+Tankers+charters-in+8+ships.+So%2C+our+core+fleet+is+60+in+total.+8+is+Maersk+tankers%E2%80%99+Time+Charter+%28TC%29-in+vessels+and+52+is+owned+by+Maersk+Products+Tankers.%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3EWe+are+opportunistic.+We+take+time+charters+when+we+think+it%E2%80%99s+attractive.+I+think+right+now+charter+rates+are+very+high.+We+have+taken+8+ships%2C+so+it+shows+how+we+believe+in+the+markets.+%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3EChartering-in+8+ships+comes+with+a+lot+of+risk.+The+average+product+tanker+owner+today+owns+less+than+4+ships.+So%2C+our+8+TC-in+vessels+are+a+lot+in+a+market+as+fragmented+as+this+one.%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3EThe+number+of+Maersk+Product+Tankers%E2%80%99+owned+vessels+have+been+decreasing.+The+company+has+seen+the+opportunity+in+the+increasing+market+to+sell+some+ships+to+take+advantage+of+the+high+rates.+%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3ENow%2C+we+still+have+a+lot+of+ships+trading+in+the+spot+market+because+we+think+the+market+outlook+is+attractive.+But+I+think+it%E2%80%99s+important+from+a+portfolio+perspective+that+you+don%E2%80%99t+put+everything+in+the+same+colour.%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3EOur+charter-in+period+is+probably+an+average+of+about+one+year.+We+have+some+leasing+vessels+that+are+long-term+8-10+years.+%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3E-Activities+in+Japan%3Cbr%3EWe+have+been+very+active+in+Japan+for+many+years.+We%E2%80%99ve+done+many+TC-in+here.+We+continue+to+take+a+lot+of+vessels.+I+think+particularly+the+Japanese+pump+room+design+MRs+which+we+have+a+lot+in+our+pool+because+they+are+very+good+quality%2C+and+easy+to+operate.+%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3EWe+have+not+ordered+newbuildings+for+a+while.+Newbuilding+prices+are+quite+high.+But+I+think+the+reality+is+there%E2%80%99s+a+lot+of+uncertainty+about+future+propulsion.+So+that+is+also+why+we+are+investing+so+much+time+and+money+in+finding+a+way+forward+on+decarbonization.+%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3E-About+GHG+reduction+of+existing+vessels%3Cbr%3EThere%E2%80%99s+a+lot+we+can+do+today+to+improve+the+vessels+already+underwater.+We+have+created+a+business+called+Njord%2C+in+partnership+with+Mitsui+and+Cargill.%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3EWith+current+high+energy+prices+combined+with+an+increased+focus+on+decarbonization%2C+many+owners+are+very+interested+in+Njord.+%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3EIt+has+gained+traction+this+year+and+become+a+profitable+company+because+the+payback+on+the+investment+is+very+low.+For+some+vessels%2C+it%E2%80%99s+less+than+one+year.+The+return+on+the+investment+is+really+good.+Probably+the+best+investment+you+can+make+today+is+energy+efficiency+because+there+are+very+high+energy+prices.+%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3ESo%2C+there+are+many+different+existing+technologies+out+there.+We+have+a+lot+of+experience+with+how+they+work+together.+If+you+put+one+technology+on+the+ship%2C+then+it+is+easy+to+see+how+much+savings+you+will+get%2C+but+you+cannot+say+if+you+put+5+different+technologies+or+10+different+technologies+on+board.%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3EWe+have+a+lot+of+experience+having+placed+many+of+these+devices+on+board+our+own+ships.+So+we+can+advise+shipowners.+%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3EWe+typically+do+it+in+phases.+First%2C+you+can+buy+a+screening+and+we+will+tell+you+what+the+savings+potential+is+and+what+the+payback+is.+%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3EAnd+then+we+can+also+do+the+design+and+then+we+can+do+the+final+installation+where+we+negotiate+with+the+suppliers+and+make+the+whole+yard+specification.+Then+we+guide+the+owner+through+the+entire+process.+This+is+not+just+focused+on+product+tankers%2C+we+have+advised+on+LNG+carriers%2C+container+ships%2C+bulk+carriers%2C+or+tanker+vessels.+So+really+all+sectors.%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3EWe+feel+it%E2%80%99s+important+that+we+all+know+that+what+this+industry+needs+is+green+fuel.+But+it+might+take+a+long+time+until+we+have+the+right+green+fuel+in+the+volumes+we+need+so%2C+everyone+can+sail+on+it.+However%2C+in+the+meantime%2C+we+need+to+take+action+to+reduce+emissions.%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3EFor+that+reason%2C+we+want+to+drive+that+agenda.+And+we+do+that.+We+also+do+that+through+the+use+of+products+from+a+company+called+ZeroNorth.+%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3EZeroNorth+was+established+by+Maersk+Tankers+3+years+ago+and+is+today+a+completely+independent+company+that+has+more+than+2000+vessels+on+the+platform.+Again%2C+also+making+global+trade+green+by+optimizing+the+energy+consumption+on+the+vessels+at+all+times.+%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3EOf+course%2C+there%E2%80%99s+uncertainty+about+the+future.+But+there%E2%80%99s+so+much+we+can+do+today.+And+for+us+is+using+our+scale+of+commercial+management%2C+because+by+coming+together%2C+we+can+invest+in+decarbonization.+We+can+use+ZeroNorth+and+the+digital+products+from+them+to+optimize+better.+%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3EWe+are+helping+more+than+40+different+partners+in+our+commercial+management+to+get+through+this+transition.+%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3E-About+Methanol-fueled+ships%3Cbr%3EContainer+lines+have+ordered+90+methanol+dual-fuel+vessels.+I+think+it+sends+a+clear+signal+to+the+market+about+the+demand+for+methanol.+The+technology+is+known%2C+and+engines+are+available.+%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3EI+think+maybe+over+time%2C+we+will+also+get+to+a+point+where+we+can+develop+ammonia+but+there+are+some+questions+regarding+ammonia
